Brookline Beats Xaverian, 54-51 to Salvage Tournament Win
Turning the ball over 9 times in the first quarter and trailing by 7 at half, the Brookline Warriors came from behind to down Xaverian, 54-51. Brookline was led by Elijah Rogers(20 pts) and Anthony Jennings(15 pts). The Warriors had no made 3pt shots on the night and committed 25 turnovers.
“Tell me before the game that, with our caliber of shooters, we have zero 3 pointers for the game. . .and commit that many turnovers and I would say we should have lost,” commented Coach Fiedor. “Our defense saved us tonight. Our press was outstanding. Xaverian seemed to have difficulty dealing with our quickness and length the second half.”
Up 1 with 12 seconds on the clock and Xaverian in possession of the ball in the backcourt, Elijah Rogers stole the inbounds. Fouled with 5.5 seconds to play, he calmly sank both free throws to extend the lead to 3. Zeev Gray-Mandell contested Xaverians final shot, which airballed to end the game.
“We will take the win. I believe we have to mature in our approach to the games. A great challenge collectively for us is mental toughness and understanding that you can’t get a ‘do over’ . . .once it’s done. . . it’s history.’
