2/22/10 - Brookline vs Natick

The Brookline Warriors staged a second half comeback last night at the Schluntz, to down Natick 61-60 in the first round of the MIAA playoffs. Trailing 31-18 at halftime, and looking out of sync with one another, the second half proved to be a different story. Jacob Page(23pts), Drew Levey(18pts), and Dante Davis(15pts, 14 rebs) proceeded to score all of Brookline's 43 second half points.
"We were in a serious whole." commented Fiedor. 'I expected more from us the first half, and from the quiet qymnasium, so did every fan that attended. We just needed for our best players to relax and play ball like they were capable of. Dante held us in there in the first half. . .and Drew and Jacob went off in the second."
Levey actually scored all 18 of his points in a second half surge that spanned about 10 minutes. With some excellent defensive plays to steal several passes, and dribble penetration moves, the senior forward carried the load as Brookline surged back from 13 down to take a 1 point lead. Then it was Page's turn to light up the nets. Hitting on three shots from beyond the arc, and getting into the paint to score and land put backs from the offensive glass, Page helped push the lead out to 8 with 2 minutes and change to play. Both Levey and Page scored 18 each in the second half and it looked as though the Warriors were about to blow it open down the stretch.
A series of defensive lapses allowed Natick to hit 3 bombs from outside the arc and before you knew it, the game was within 1. Natick had a chance to win it with a lefty layup under 3 seconds, but Dante Davis defensive contesting of the shot and a Chris Andrew rebound sealed the victory.
"We survive and advance. I'm still looking for a serious side to this team I have yet to see. It's mental toughness that motivates a 32 minute effort. That's what we have to have to beat Mansfield. I believe we can do it."
